 History in the City

Callie M. Jasper served as assistant Pastor at Mt. Sinai Pentecostal Gospel Tabernacle under the late Lola Handberry, was ordained Elder in 1964 and was called to Pastor in 1965. Holy City had its beginning in 1965 on Saratoga Avenue, Brooklyn, New York under the pastorship of Pastor Callie M. Jasper, now Mother Apostle Callie M. Jasper. In 1969 the church was relocated to Fulton Street.

Holy City's first assistant pastor was Elder Maggie Osborne, who held that position from 1969 through 1974 when she relocated to the South.

In 1973 the church moved its location to 83 Rockaway, and the church's name was changed to Holy City House of Prayer. Sometimes services were held at Pastor Jasper's house on Knickerbocker Avenue.

In 1975 Holy City relocated to its present location at 2126 Fulton Street. When the church moved to its present home, Pastor Jasper led the congregation from the old location to the new location singing "Look back and see where He brought me from". The name was changed to Holy City Faith and Deliverance Ministry Center of Love. Elder Stella Stevenson became the assistant pastor from 1975 through 1990 until she became ill and went home to be with the Lord in December 1993.

The new church used to be an old warehouse and had to be renovated to be used as the church. There was a renovation done to the basement in June of 1975. After the renovation, a pastoral anniversary was held in the basement of the church in June of 1976.

The winters were hard on the building as well as the congregation. At times there was ice on the walls and the gates frozen. She would send her son and her nephew to the church to open the gates, sometimes unfreezing them. There were times when they would have to pour hot water on the gates to get them open so they would be able to have church. There were times when there was no heat, but Pastor Jasper, would push ahead anyway. There were times when it was too cold to have church at its location; during these times, Pastor Jasper would have services at her home. Her home became famous for the place of the Holy Ghost.

There were people who would come with a need to receive the Holy Ghost, and as they came with an earnest desire, Pastor Jasper would pray and lay hands. As they lay out before the Lord, the infilling of the Holy Ghost would fall with the evidence of speaking in Tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

In 1980 through 1983, Pastor Jasper shared her church with Bishop Coleman, who was under Bishop Handberry; his church was Mt. Sinai House of Prayer. Pastor Jasper allowed his church's name to be linked with Holy City and for a while the church was called Holy City Mt. Sinai House of Prayer.

In 1983 there began a series of break-ins. Organs, chairs and other various church items were taken, but God restored what the locust and caterpillars had eaten away.

In 1987 through 1993 Pastor Jasper and Holy City came under the Pilgrim Church Assemblies where Archbishop Roy E. Brown is the Chief Prelate. In 1993 there was a fire at the church and it sustained substantial damages. Bishop Brown raised an offering for Holy City and the men of Holy City along with some men from Pilgrim began repairs on the church. While renovations were under way, Pastor Jasper was allowed to hold services in part of Pilgrim's facilities. By May of 1993, the sanctuary was ready for the congregation once again and the Holy City family moved back home. On November 4, 1995, Pastor Jasper was consecrated to the sacred office of the Bishop. In January of 1995 renovations on the upstairs began. In January 1997, called, appointed and anointed, the then Bishop Callie M. Jasper accepted her destiny; being bestowed with the rank and authority from God to be a parent to the body of Christ, she became Apostle Callie M. Jasper.

Presently, the church has gone through many renovations, naturally and spiritually. One thing has never changed, the touchability of our leader and the unconditional love that she gives to all who come her way. She is widely known as Mother Apostle. Without Mother Apostle Callie M. Jasper, there would be no Holy City and a part of the body of Christ that knows how to give God a radical praise in the face of many adversities.
